With over 20 years of teaching experience,

Ms. DeRosa teaches beginning level through advanced college level instruction on both lever and pedal harp.

Her students range in age from 5 to 60+. 

While it is preferred that the student enter with a minimum of 2 years training in piano,

acceptance will be considered on an individual basis through private audition.


Private lessons for this unique instrument will include instruction on rhythm, theory, history, practical knowledge and application of skills. Also available are private lessons for rhythm, theory and piano.


Ms. DeRosa teaching studio is located in the Hickory Creek, Texas

(just north of Lewisville, south of Denton).

Her instruction is also available via SKYPE.

Ms. DeRosa's harp students have won numerous awards and competitions. Her students have been accepted into prestigious music programs and often with scholarships. Letters of students’ acceptance include University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, University of Houston, Houston Baptist University, Loyola University, Rice University's Shepherd School,  The Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto, Canada, Southern Methodist University, University of Toronto and Tulane University.


Prior to opening a Private Teaching Studio in Houston in 1992, Kimberly taught harp, piano and theory at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. In 1998, Kimberly joined the faculty of Houston Baptist University as an Affiliate Artist. In 2000, she founded the annual Houston Baptist University Summer Harp Festival in which she continues to direct. Open to students in the 6th through 12th grades, this week-long Festival is an intense and non-competitive study of the harp, its history and its music.


In 2006, Kimberly launched Harp Journeys, a 3-day Harp Festival designed specifically for adult students. Harp Journeys offers workshops, private lessons, performance opportunities and a concert series to its participants.


After earning a B.A. in Harp Performance from Southern Methodist University under the direction of Susan Dederich-Pejovich, Mrs. DeRosa completed her graduate studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto with Judy Loman.

Kimberly has been a workshop presenter at many Festivals and Conferences including Gulf Coast Regional Conference, Harp Journeys and the Houston Baptist University Summer Harp Festival.

“These are a Few of my Favorite Things”

Highlighting pieces that have the “wow” without the “woes”. A few showy , not necessarily difficult pieces can liven up an entire set of music. Kimberly will demonstrate some of her favorites and talk about variety in repertoire.


“About That Latin Beat...”

This workshop addresses counting and internalizing polyrhythms and syncopation in the context of the beautiful and unique rhythms of South American music. Learn a piece by ear (the traditional South American way) and create a part in our own ensemble version of a traditional melody. Music sources will be discussed. All levels.


“More about that Latin Beat... “

Here we will review the concepts presented in About That Latin Beat and apply them to different music selections. All levels.


“An Introduction to South American Harp” Some history, music styles and special effects.


“How Theory Makes You a Better Player”

Theory improves your sight reading, aids in the learning process and provides more security in performing and memorizing. Analyzing your music in combination with the muscle memory of the fingers increases your ability to learn pieces more quickly. Basics of theory and common patterns in harp music will be discussed. You will have an opportunity to apply these concepts in class to one classical piece and one pop tune. Beginning - Upper intermediate levels.


“...but My Hands Are SHAKING!”

Enjoy performing the music you love. Steps in building confidence, avoiding the mental games we play on ourselves, preparation for performing and how to utilize precious practice time. All levels.


“You can Beat This!”

We will review counting basic rhythms and time signatures and then explore interesting ways of using them. THis 3-layered approach (mind, ear, touch) is designed for a deeper understanding and a more comfortable level of playing music.


“Playing Out”

Performing in public. A discussion forum. Topics include 1) Knowing what questions to ask the client 2) Developing awareness of the job environment 3) Organizing your music and promotional materials 4) Creating performance opportunities 5) Writing contracts and insuring timely payment. Lower Intermediate through advanced levels.

“Arranging Piano Parts for Harp”
